Cloverfield, The Movie

Last summer I was pumped to see The Transfromers and the day the movie was released I was almost late (as usual) because as we all know there are about 15 to 20 minutes of previews.  Well this is one time I'm glad I was on time.  The last preview before the movie started was the best teaser I've ever seen.  A going away party being filmed on a hand held camera, an explosion, the lights go out, chaos on the street and then a huge object spinning through the air and landing on the ground, the object THE HEAD OF THE STATUE OF LIBERTY!  The trailer gave you no name just: 1.18.08.  I came home and immediately Googled 1.18.08 and found vague references to the trailer, speculation and information that J.J. Abrams was the producer.  I'd been waiting on this movie since July 4th, 2007. Now, I'm a little bias because the movie takes place in New York but I promise you this is unlike any movie you've seen before.  The entire movie is filmed on a hand held camera and I really thought I was going to hate it, well it heightened the suspense/edge of your seat factor.  You see what the characters see and how you'd see it if you were living it.  I love how periodically the guy filming it drifts off and focuses on something else (like we all do when were bored or something more interesting catches our attention).  If you don't need things tied up in a neat little package, if you don't have to see everything and like to use your imagination this is the movie for you.  The producer of Cloverfield is J.J. Abrams the creator of LOST and producer of ALIAS.  Cloverfield is NOT like the Blair Witch Project.  You get some explanation but just as you think you know you end up with 2 more questions.  And characters aren't spared.  Recently television (LOST, GREYS ANATOMY) has taken to killing off main characters and this trend has shifted to the movies and Cloverfied is no exception.  Who survives surprised me.  So make sure you pee BEFORE you sit down, get a SMALL soda & snack then DONT MOVE!  If you decide to check it come back and let me know what you think.  Clink on the link below to view the trailer.
