Impressive Introduction: Governor Sara Palin
I was going to wait until the end of the convention before I wrote about it but after watching Sara Palin's speech I needed to get it out while it was still fresh. Overall, I was impressed. Just for the record I support Obama and thats not going to change but I believe in giving credit where it's due (and I wont touch any of the negative press or family related issues) and tonight Governor Palin took an impressive first step into the national/global spotlight. Besides Fred Thompson, the speeches have been marginal at best. The worst coming from Mike Huckabee, I don't know where he got his "facts" about the founder of the Republican Party or the number of votes Palin got over Biden, but thats another entry. Governor Palin will not appeal to everyone, portions of her speech came across as sarcastic, (catty is the word some of using but to be fair sarcastic is what would be used if she were a man) portions were genuine and seemed to represent Sara Palin. I must admit I loved, "whats the difference between a Pit bull and a Soccer mom, LIPSTICK!", thats a one liner that will go down in the history books. For the past few days the attention that Governor Palin has gotten from the media and the backing she has received from the Republican Party has amazed me. She has performed well as Governor of Alaska and from what I can tell is not afraid of a fight and can throw a political punch as hard as any man, and THAT'S why she was chosen. And for that reason it would be dangerous Democrats to under estimate her. Do I think she is ready to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency, no. If she was chosen to appeal to Clinton voters then that was a HUGE mistake, she's far from Hillary Clinton and I think shes very comfortable with that. But she does have appeal, she's a NRA member, shes Pro-Life, believes in abstinence only sex-ed in schools (I will stay away from the obvious there) and other traditionally conservative views. She definitely fits into this non-traditional, history making campaign/election year.
If the Republicans dont win it will most likely be the last we hear of McCain, but I have a feeling it's just the beginning for Sara Palin. Like her or not, keep your on her.
